I said that I updated the XQuartz after updating to 10.5.7, so
anything that was 'downgraded' was subsequently upgraded.

As a further note, if I ssh into my coworkers machine, which is
running an older version of XQuartz, then IDL works fine. I'm going
to try downgrading XQuartz and see what happens.
