For what its worth, I notice that I've hit a similar problem since
upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10. idlde no longer works, and complains about 3
modules in /usr/lib/gio:

/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so

I have 32 bit versions of each module in /usr/lib32, but IDL doesn't
seem to know about them.
