On IDL 4.0.1 on SunOS 4.1.4:

Units -1 and -2 appear to be stdout and stderr. Output of print goes to -1
while the IDL prompt, command line, and system messages go to -2.

Unit 0 I'm not sure of. Could be /dev/null.

Tis a shame it's not consistant among architectures.

Anyone know what happens on VMS?
