Just a follow up

> yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk.i686
No package java-1.6.0-openjdk.i686 available.

The 32 bit package for java didn't exist in my installation of Fedora
11. I tried many other perturbations with no success.

I followed directions at this website and it seemed to work fine.
