emacs -q still segfaults when I try and do anything in the IDL buffer in
emacs.

echo $DISPLAY results in :0.0 which is, as far as I know (I'm far from a
wizard) correct

IDL, by itself, does what I ask of it, graphics-wise, X-wise, etc
