Apparently, this can be fixed by setting the
HORIZONTAL_SPACING keyword to some "appropriate"
value. But, this problem appears to be a property
of Legend, meaning I have to set this keyword every
time I want nice looking PDF output. Is there a
way to set this property globally?

Cheers,

David
