Perhaps I'm missing something but that doesn't work for me in my
postscript plot. Neither do any of these:
xtitle='R'+'$\oplus$'
xtitle='R'+TexToIDL('\oplus')
xtitle='R'+TexToIDL('$\oplus$')

I'm using version 8.0.0
