I am using IDL 8.2 with XQuartz since times, now on Lion. I have no problem, I see only the different icon. I am not quite sure about the cumbersome display variable,
echo $DISPLAY
/tmp/launch-m6xh7k/org.macosforge.xquartz:0
if this is a result of XQuartz!? I am using it since Gimp (from GimponOSX) needs it.
