hmm....

It seems that this problem goes away if the /WRITE keyword is
specified.....

At least that's a temporary solution, as long as you're writing files.

This would seem to indicate that it's not a Windows bug, however...
more likely something to do with IDL?

Perhaps a 5-minute bug fix for ExelisVis ?
