It is an IDL executable.

No, this is a real executable, just like what you and everyone
else wants to build.

RSI must do the embedding of IDL into your application.
I hear this is "ridiculously expensive" to quote someone
who wrote me about it just today. The general feeling is
that if your are not also selling high-priced medical
equipment or some other item in which you can bury the
couple of hundred dollars cost, you will not be interested
in this option.
(I'm making the numbers up, although I think I am not
far off based on several recent conversations with
disgruntled small-scale software developers. Check
with your local IDL sales rep for the actual costs.)
