You're serious about having tackled this problem, aren't you!?
I can't wait to see your posting. Maybe I'll take the challenge,
but my day job always gets in the way! The best contour labelling
I have seen is in a package called GrADS. Most people here have
moved to this FREEWARE package for obvious reasons, read: FREEware.
Stop by for a demo sometime! We're at 28th and Arapahoe.
