Hi Folks,

Quite a lot of reports are coming into this newsgroup
concerning IDL 5.0 "anomalies". It has occurred to
several people that it might be a good idea to collect
this information in a central location where we can
all have a look at it. (It might prevent us from spending
hours and hours in the frustrating task of isolating bugs
on our own. How many of you have thought you had
suddenly gone daft in the past few weeks?)

For reasons that I can't even begin to fathom, I have
volunteered to collect this information and make it available
on my web page. :-)

I think we might be able to accommodate two kinds of reports.

Informal reports might be in the form of "observations" of the
kind Joe Zawodny and others are already making about the
way things behave, etc.

More formal reports could be made of real (or apparent)
bugs. It would be helpful if these reports are written in
a more or less standard format. Here is a suggested template
for such a report.

Name:
E-mail Address:
IDL version:
Platform and OS:
Description of Problem: (Please keep it as short as possible.)
Example Code: (If you have a *short* example!)
Known Workarounds or Fixes:
RSI Technical Support Response: (If appropriate.)

I will be doing no editing of this information. I'm basically
just collecting any reports people care to send in and making
them available as a resource. It will be helpful if you could
send an e-mail copy to me when you post to the newsgroup.
This will make the information more timely and less dependent
on the strange ways of internet providers and newsgroup servers.

I'll report the HTTP location as soon as I have something set up.

Cheers,

David
