Folks,

I want to report a sneaky development I just discovered by
the so-called "computer scientists" at ExelisVis that has
the potential to undermine everything we hold dear about
IDL. I refer, of course, to modifications in the IDL 8.2
documentation that changes the reading of the font tables
from octal to simple decimal numbers! What the ...!?

Don't these people realize this is the only place left
in the world where it is possible to still run into this
endangered species? Removing these octal tables is an
outrage and will impoverish untold generations of IDL
programmers in the future. Not to mention making it easy
for programming rift-raft to figure out how to get the
font character they are looking for. What's the point
of having experts now!?

Please join me in signing the petition below to get the
company to reverse this disastrous decision to make the
font tables understandable. We need to restore
the integrity and purpose of this IDL newsgroup to
explain the obscure to the uninitiated. Anything less
is completely unacceptable.

Cheers,

Coyote
