Dear IDLers,

Finally made the step to IDL8.2. I was really happy with 7.1 but of
course some aspects of IDL 8.* were attractive. IDL8.1 was impossible to
work with on my linux distrib but after one week on IDL8.2.1, I must say
that I managed to be productive again. There are many thinks I like in
IDL8.2, but as usual it is easier to list the things that don't work
;-). Here they are ():

*My real problems with IDL8.2:*
- debugger: stepover doesn't work. If an error is thrown, step over the
line sending the error not possible! (see description of the problem in
my next post post)
- fresh IDL install and SVN: after a first check out of a remote
project, right--click on the project in the explorer and ->properties
doesn't allow full control on the options. My workaround is to manually
open and modify any file in the project, then it works. (sorry for the
poor description of the problem but its a really strange bug)

Smaller annoying problems:
- the workbench window jumps out of full screen mode when switching to
"synchronize with repository" view and in some other random cases
- SVN sometimes asks me to confirm my password, even if I saved it
- debugger sometimes freezes completely for a few seconds...
- not possible to CTRL-cut things from the command line
- I liked more the design of IDL 7.1, closer to Eclipse's original
design (but that's personal taste)
- SVN icons in the project explorer were more esthetic in 7.1 (a small
green star) then in 8.2 (a simple grey ">")
- in general, because of those strange behaviours, IDL8.2 makes a less
stable impression than IDL7.1

That's all for now! I would be glad to hear if I am the only one having
those problems.

Thanks,

Fab
