Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there knew if it was possible to use the new map() graphics routine without x-windows. I have trued using /buffer, but it still complains that I did not use the -X when I ssh'ed into the server.

And no, running ssh with -X will not suit my needs. I am working on a complex project that involves saving KML files of contour plots generated by IDL in situations where X-windows is not always available. Since this is a batch-type script, I do not draw any windows, I only save files.

If anyone knew of a way that I could get around this roadblock, I would greatly appreciate the help. Possible solutions include a method of accessing map() without X, or if anyone knew of a good quality routine that generates KML files using the old graphics system. Thank you.

Actually, this was fixed in IDL 8.3 for most of the new graphics. I think the only remaining bug was doing .Save() to a PDF file, which has been fixed for IDL 8.4.

Cheers,
Chris
