I have to run my programs under multiple versions of IDL and
PV-WAVE.
Recently I had occaision to run one under PV-WAVE 6.10 under Windows NT.
The application does a fair amount of arithmetic, then uses finite() to
check that everything is legal. Much to my surprise the finite() check
is orders of magnitude slower than basic arithmetic on the same array
sizes. (BTW, there were no infinite values.)
This is not the case with an old version of IDL running on the same
platform, or with IDL running under Linux, or with a still older IDL and
PV-WAVE running on an SGI.
Is this a problem that VNI has fixed in more recent versions, or is it
something that can not be avoided?
