IDL has a built in CD command you can use to change directory without
resorting to SPAWN. Something like this will probably do the trick:

CD, 'c:\folder', CURRENT = owd ; cd and save old working directory
SPAWN, 'program.exe' ; spawn program
CD, owd ; cd back to the old working directory
