Yeah, it was too crotchety. But I had just finished dealing
with an e-mail from someone who wanted me to read a data
file and the only thing he told me about it was that it was
in binary format! Sheesh!

Cheers,

David

P.S. I'm looking though the Yellow Pages now for schools
that teach classes in clairvoyancy.

what David meant to say is that read_rdr is not part of IDL, but a routine
probably written by someone at your insitution. Knowing neither your code
nor the data format it is impossible to answer your question. for starters,
you may start learning IDL with a good book; I suggest Fannning's book,
which has always served me well. (Nice plug David, huh? :) )

We can be reasonably sure, when no description of the
"problem" is provided, that the "problem" is the
programmer. So, with 95% confidence, the problem is "you". :-)

Cheers,

David

P.S. There is always the possibility that a description
of the problem could reduce the confidence factor significantly.
I mean, it's happened. :-)

Hm, sounds thrilling. Speaking of which, I have some sort of encrypted data
file here. Would you are to decrypt that for me? :)
