Thanks for that David. I'd suspected that was the answer and at least I
won't waste any more time trying to work out how to do it!

I think the answer is no, although there is the ability to
read the newer motion JPEG2000 format, via the
IDLffMJPEG2000 object. Probably doesn't help you, though.
