Hi all,
We are having problems with iToolsISVfiles. I have filed a bug report
with ITTVIS, but I thought that someone here might have some ideas.
ISV files generated in IDL 7 and viewed in IDL 7 work fine.
ISV filesgenerated in IDL 7 and viewed in IDL 8 will not rotate properly
with the freehand rotate tool. Attempting to use the freehand rotate tool
causes the objects to stretch and rotate at the same time.
ISV filesgenerated in IDL 8 and viewed in IDL 8 exhibit this problem some
of the time, but not consistently. You can download a sample isv file
created in IDL 8 by using iSurface here
http://csrp.tamu.edu/downloads/idl/test_rotate.isv.zip
If you select the freehand rotate tool and click on
the white space around the yellow surface, it seems to
rotate properly. If you click such that the surface is under the cursor
and try to rotate, the whole rendering stretches in unexpected ways.
We have not been able to determine whether this is a problem with the ISV
files or possibly with changes made to the iTools in version 8.

To answer my own question:
ITTIS Support tells me that there is a bug in the iTools that will
be fixed in the next release.
The bug basically makes it impossible to use the freehand rotate
tool to rotate a visualization. (For me the 3-D rotation is the
main reason to use the iTools.)
I may be the only person who actually uses the iTools, but if you
do, I recommend that you keep your IDL 7.1 installation until
this bug is fixed.
