I think that the only way to have widgets of different colours
is to use the RESOURCE_NAME keyword to add a unique resource
name to each widget base, and then edit your .Xresources file
to assign a different colour to each of the bases.

As the manual says, you'll need some Motif experience to do this.

If your widget base really is huge and contains lots of other
widgets it may also be rather confusing to the user. You might
find it easier to separate some of the smaller widget bases into
their own windows to simplify things.

Another alternative you might want to look at is the one
used by the Xpalette program where you can bring up different
colour slider combinations in the same area by selecting using
a droplist widget. This just maps in and maps out already
constructed widget bases and so is pretty fast and allows you to
stack a lot into one space. It's great if you don't need access to
all the sliders/buttons/etc. at once.
