I feel your pain!
Get IDL 5.02 and hope, as published by RSI, that this problem
has been fixed in their new release. I believe the CD should
ship this week, and the upgrade to 5.02 may be available on
their web site as well.

The answer is "yes", Cell_Fill is back in IDL 5.0.2. This version is
available now, although not shipping in quantity due to the UPS strike
in the US. It should be available on RSI ftp site shortly.
