We recently did some comparisons running IDL 5.1 under Solaris Ultra 10 333Mhz
and on 400Mhz Pentium II under Linux. The Pentium ran about twice as fast for
most of our tests, even published SPEC numbers show the SUN should be a bit
faster
for floating point operations. I've inquired @rsinc about that and got a reply
that they added me to a "feature request" to optimize for UltraSparc. Sooo,
anybody who
has had similar experiences may want to lend weight to this "Feature Request".
Thanks
Axel
