My company is in the process of porting our signal- and image-processing
algorithms to a more generalized environment, and has asked me to
evaluate all of our available options. Basically, we need to transform
audio and video signals into the spectral domain via FFT, do a bit of
matrix processing, and then render the results via iFFT. Presently,
we're using a Symbolic Sound Kyma signal processing workstation to
accomplish this for audio.
In looking over the specs for IPL, it seems to have everything we need
to realize our app...but I couldn't find any information regarding image
or signal I/O (apart from reading various pre-stored file formats).
Does IPL have the capability to process a real-time signal? In other
words, can I feed live audio into the FFT via an A/D converter, process
it, iFFT it, and send the resulting signals out over a D/A (as we're
presently doing with the dedicated Kyma hardware)?
And, if IPL /doesn't/ handle real-time I/O, are there any other
software-based products that do? We'll likely be using a dual-G4
PowerMac as our base 'general computing environment'. So far, I've
found the Max/MSP/nato.0+55+3d software that will satisfy our
application and I/O requirements, but was wondering what else might be
available?
TIA for and and all insights...
