Short answer: I don't think so.

Longer answer: you may be able to post process by editing the file
after the fact. If you are on unix, then sed or perl or awk are
possibilities. You could also use IDL itself to open the postscript
file and change it. The key is to make a unique axis title, like
xtitle='MYTITLE', and then use a search-replace function to change
that into whatever postscript you want. Not elegant, true.
