This should be really easy. How do you print something (to the normal
print window in IDL) without a carriage return?

I have a routine that is doing many calculations, and every once in a
while i just want to print a dot, so I can see the calculation
progressing. Anyone know a simple way to do this?

(i.e.,
print, 'Calculating', format='(no carriage return)'
for i = 1,100 do begin
Calculate_hard_Thing, i
print, '.', format='(no carriage return)'
endfor
)
