Accessing VAX files from a Mac Running IDL [message #2133]

I am running IDL on both a Mac and a Vax. The Mac has Ethertalk and is
configured for Pathworks. I have a large number of big datafiles sitting on
the VAX in ascii or xdr format that I would like to access with idl on my
Mac but I don't want to transfer the files over to my Mac first. Does
anyone know if there is some way I can configure IDL so that it can access
the VAX over a terminal server or some other mac network application. I
have VersaTerm-Pro and can configure a terminal server and specify various
ports but I can't tell if idl can connect to terminal ports and send
commands over those line.

Any suggestions or advice would be most appreciated.
