Dear Hari
I am copying this reply to the Usenet newsgroup comp.lang.idl-pvwave.
This is a good place to raise questions about IDL. There are various
ways of accessing Usenet newsgroups; one is to use the Google interface
at http://groups.google.com/
There is some information missing from your message (eg how many
dimensions do your arrays have? how do the results of the plot & surface
command differ from what you wanted?) but I suspect what you want to
produce a histogram plot is a routine like PLOTHIST, part of the IDL
Astronomy User's Library at http://idlastro.gsfc.nasa.gov/homepage.html.
Cheers
