We have a problem of more technical nature. For certain idl programs,
all handling and plotting large data sets to the screen, idl regularly
halts in the mid of the process and there is apparently no other way
than to kill the whole idl process from Unix. This only happens when
plotting to the screen. When running the same program with output to a
file the process may be slow but it proceeds.

I'm not sure if this is linked to idl or to our network/memory capcity
etc. I wonder, however, if there are some sort of settings for
buffer/memory capacity, tmp-directories etc when installing idl than
can be used to help this?

Many thanks for any help
