"standalone-programs" using idl ? [message #3393]

Is it possible to produce (compile) "stand alone programs" using idl?
Or is there the need for a runtime-idl or something like that ? or is it
necessary that a copy of idl is installed on the system where i want to
run my idl-programs ?
