I cant speak to windows as I never use it but in my experience IDL on
linux with xeon is better than Sun. Sun seems to be too much money
and dont provide the speed you think you should get for the cash.
Also any external C/Java/whatever is just more annoying on sun. I
personally have seen the fastest results on mac pros with the multi
core chips, but as I have spent most of time looking there thats why I
see it most :)
