I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.04 LTS this week. When I try to
launch ENVI or anything graphical in IDL, I get the error:

% DEVICE: Invalid screen number on display string
% DEVICE: Unable to open X Windows display.
Is your DISPLAY environment variable set correctly?

A quick check shows:

DISPLAY=::ffff:10.60.1.43:1.0

If I do:

export DISPLAY=10.60.1.43:1.0

then everything is fine. I realise this isn't really an IDL problem,
but this is the only program that seems to be affected by this. Where
does the ::ffff: come from and why is it only a problem for IDL? i
never encountered this before upgrading Ubuntu.
