Oh, just to be clear, I was excited there is a way to *disable* this
new behavior. I also hate it!

And back to the direct graphics windows issue, I hadn't tested that
well when I answered before. On OS X WSHOW is bringing DG windows to
the foreground. Now that I turned off the "graphics on top", uh,
feature, they really do come all the way to the top! So, you may be
back again to a Windows vs. IDL 8 issue, unfortunately. :(
