Hi,
I tested the new video write feature in IDL 8.1 yesterday. This
functionality is one I had long been waiting for. Due to the poor
quality of MPEG2 for scientific graphics, I was using Ronn Kling's AVI
DLM in the past. This DLM worked great but was limited to Windows OS.
Now we finally have a cross platform solution. It was nice to see how
easy it was to use the video write feature with the new graphics
system. I am very pleased with the results.
I have one question for someone with more experience in the codec
business. I understand that the default codec used is mpeg4. Is this
or is this not different from H.264? I would like to ensure that my
movies are in H.264 format. So if these formats are not the same, how
do I go about installing and using this codec. I installed ffdshow,
which includes an H.264 codec, but using the getcodecs() method I was
not able to easily locate it. So if someone has already figured this
out, I would like to learn from you.
Thanks,
Haje
