Hello,
I have three parameters (temperature, gravity and metallicity) for a number of stars (say 300). I have to represent these stars with their properties clearly indicated on the plot. One option is to use 3-D plot and put these stars on the plot. But I am trying to show it on a 2-D plot. For this purpose, properties of the plotting symbols: colour, size and shape. I am using continuous variation in the colour of the plotting symbols to represent the temperature of the different stars (cgplots command). For displaying the different values of the gravity of the stars, the size of the plotting symbol is being varied (same command). I am using filled circle as a plotting symbol. I want to represent the third property i.e. metallicty of the stars with the third property of the plotting symbol. I think it can be represented with the varying shape of the plotting symbol. Say perfect triangle for metallicty=0.0 and perfect circle for metallicity=-3.0. And the stars in between these two limits will have an intermediate shape between these two shapes. Is there any way out of this problem? Or some other method to represent the third property of the stars?
