IDL 5.0.2 is now shipping with new orders and to customers with current
maintenance contracts. This release provides enhancements on all
supported platforms and is the first commercial release of the IDL 5
series on the MacOS.
IDL 5.0.2 for Macintosh and Windows will be available for download from
Research Systems' ftp area <ftp.rsinc.com> by August 15. The Unix and
VMS release will be posted in the ftp area by August 22.
5.0.2 enhancements include:
*Improved onscreen display of TrueType fonts.
*WYSIWYG printing facilities and more flexible axis labeling
control.
*All Hershey symbol fonts (Mathematics and the Special character
set)are now fully supported on VMS machines.
*For convenience and efficiency, the keyboard focus now stays on
the Windows IDL Development Environment command line during
interactive analysis sessions, even as new graphics windows are
generated.
*Contouring and analysis routines have been improved.
*MAP-PATCH and MAP_IMAGE routines employ new algorithms to
produce more accurate results in instances where data-cells
cross the edges of a map.
*UV extent of a map (as specified by a 4-point limit vector) is
now calculated using the AMOEBA routine.
*The transverse Mercator map projection has been adjusted to
eliminate clipping that occurred when displaying areas close to
the poles in large-scale projections.
*The CELL_FILL keyword has been returned to the CONTOUR procedure
and a problem with the FILL keyword to CONTOUR has been
corrected.
*The accuracy of the LADFIT function has also been improved.
