Check out "Astronomy User's Library" home page at:
http://idlastro.gsfc.nasa.gov/homepage.html
You'll probably find what you are looking for. There are routines for
reading and writing FITS files and I think DAOPHOT package within AUL will
help you with the source fitting and so on...
