Readers of this newsgroup may be interested to learn that a new
version of the IGOR Pro scientific graphing and data analysis
program is now available.
IGOR Pro 3.1 is the first version that runs on Microsoft Windows
(95 and NT4) in addition to the Macintosh. (And no, we will not be
dropping support for the Mac.)
Compared to matlab or IDL, IGOR Pro:
- is much less expensive
- is much more interactive
- has greater emphasis on publication quality graphics
- has greater emphasis on data analysis and curve fitting
To be fair, IGOR's support for matrix math is much weaker than
matlab's and IGOR's support for image processing is not yet as
as extensive as dedicated programs such as OPTIMAS.
