I run IDL on VMS and not PVWave, but the last PVWave I saw
(20K line PVWave GUI on a Sun) was remarkably similar in ways
great and small to IDL. So, if it exists, try a command of
the form,

Openw,lun,'filename',/list

and see what happens. The idea here is to exploit the VMS
"Carriage return carriage control" file format.
