When starting an IDL runtime application on a WINDOWS machine it's
possible to give parameters to the program call. For an IDL application
called "main.sav", needing a (STRING-)parameter which is e.g. "lap",
this program call from the command line has to be "idlrt main,'lap'".
The question now is whether there is a possibility to call the same
program using this "lap"-parameter under on a UNIX machine running IDL?
Trying to do a comparable program call from the UNIX command line using
the "idl -rt" command wasn't successful with respect to parameter
passing. Is there anybody out knowing how to make the correct program
call under UNIX using a program parameter or is this feature just
impossible on a UNIX machine?

Another problem seems to be how to call such a runtime application
automatically at a predefined time schedule: On a UNIX machine this
should be easy using the cron utility. However, on a WINDOWS-NT machine
the easiest way would be to use the "at" command. Obviously, this
solution don't do the job although it looks like that, i.e. there seems
to be a bug of IDLRT under WINDOWS!? Does anybody have some experience
in preparing automated runtime applications using IDL?

Thanks for your time.
Best regards,

DIRK.
